I beat myself up for getting distracted at work. I can usually pull myself out of the downward spiral, but it can sometimes lead to unhealthy self-talk and limiting beliefs.
I struggle with distraction every day, especially in this fast-paced digital world. I find the following things help:
- Remember it is in your nature as a human being.
- Get analytical and focus on what is leading to distraction.
- Be objective and honest with the answer.
- Consider a to-don't list (see previous post).
You could be more easily distracted than others (ADHD and its friends). Maybe you are worrying over something else and you need to address it. Maybe what you are doing is uninteresting, so how can you make it more fun? Maybe it is just one of those days when your mind wants to play and fly from one moment of flow to the next.
Distraction is a signal. Find out what it is really telling you. That, in and of itself, can be an adventure.
