“Comparison is the thief of joy.” — Theodore Roosevelt
Stop comparing yourself to others.
It is a game you cannot win. Unless you are #1 in the world, there is always someone better. And what of it? Let them have their plastic titles.
Give me happiness instead.
We are taught from an early age to compare ourselves to others.
Grades and test scores in school
The six pack abs you wish you had
Material items signaling your status
The list is endless. I’ll wager you don’t go more than a day without comparing yourself to another human being. Comparison is like money. You can never get enough of it.
You are stabbing your happiness to death with each comparison.
By defining yourself against others, they have power over you. Your obsession with keeping up and one-upping will rule you. Honestly, where does it end? I’ll tell you: stressed out, miserable and alone.
It is time to stand out in the tribe by NOT comparing yourself to others.
While everyone else is paralyzed with comparisons, you will be immersed in continuous improvement. Your focus will be inward, not outward. You will not be defined by others.
No one is better at being you than YOU.
You will win this game every day. So work on becoming the best YOU possible. Invest in yourself every day. Improve a little every day. Grow in skill and wisdom every day.
The best YOU trumps every other person on the planet!
🤔 Food for Thought:
What was the last comparison you made to someone else?
Have you noticed how these comparisons rob you of joy?
Are you tired of allowing other people to rule you with comparison?
⚙️ One Small Step:
The next time you are tempted to compare yourself to another person, say “there goes my joy.” Refocus on how you’ve improved or plan to improve today. Now say “here comes my joy.”
