The Creator Journey Is A Cycle
Creativity waxes and wanes in a continuous cycle. Understanding this cycle is the key to unlocking your creative potential.
“The creator journey is an emergent cycle. Where one creation ends, another begins. The cycle continues as we learn and grow.” — Coach Willis
Some creators never begin.
Other creators begin but get stuck. It looks at first as if the two are mired in different phases of the creator journey. But they are both in the same place... the end of one cycle and the beginning of another.
I had an incredible discussion today with my friend and fellow creator, Jake Housdon. We are working on a new concept called CoCreate. It will help people unlock their inner spark of creativity and become prolific creators.
We grappled with how to represent the creator journey.
Is it a long, segmented path?
Is it an arc like that of a moonshot?
Is it circular like the waxing and waning of the moon?
We decided on a third option that incorporates them all... the infinity ring. Where the path of the ring folds in on itself lies an inflection point... a duality ending one creative cycle and beginning another.
One side of the infinity ring represents the waxing of a creative endeavor. This is a new book, article, poem, painting, sculpture, software application or any other creation. It represents the flow state of action and advancement.
The other side of the infinity ring represents the waning of a creative endeavor. This is sharing a creation, engaging with others, resting, acquiring new perspectives and refining knowledge into wisdom. It represents the reflective state of growth and renewal.
We live to create. As we create, we grow. And as we grow, we create. The creator journey is an endless cycle. Sometimes friction slows us down or delays our advancement from once cycle to the next. But around and around we go.
Jake and I are excited about CoCreate and the creator journey. There is much left to uncover and refine, but we are closing in on something amazing.
🤔 Food for Thought:
Where are you in the creator journey?
Are you having trouble beginning?
Are you stuck between one creation and the next?
⚙️ One Small Step:
The great thing about the creator journey is its cyclic nature. Let go of limits, assumptions and expectations. Create something for the joy of it. Then share it with friends. At the end of this creation, you will uncover the next. Around and around you go.
