Obstacles Require Perspective
What at first appears to be an impediment is something else altogether.
“The mind adapts and converts to its own purposes the obstacle to our acting. The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” — Marcus Aurelius
The obstacle is tall and wide.
But seen from another angle, it is a series of small steps. An impenetrable wall from one side... a tall but approachable staircase from the other.
Perspective is incredibly powerful.
A negative mindset will always see the worst. A positive mindset is open to the possibilities. When facing challenges, few are truly insurmountable with the right perspective.
Perspective means the difference between...
Paralyzing fear and great anticipation
Giving up without starting and taking the first step
Staying in your comfort zone and expanding what is possible
Lamenting what you have to lose and celebrating what you have to gain
Perspective sets the stage for future action.
You tend to get more of what is expected. Fear the worst and your mind will magnify the shadow of an ant into that of a fire-breathing dragon. Expect to break through, and your mind will find the shortest path.
Choose to see every obstacle as an opportunity.
Look past the dragon and see the ant. Have faith in your ability to go through, over, under or around every impediment. There is always a way. You just have to find the right angle.
A simple change in perspective reveals the truth.
What at first appears impenetrable is the way... the true path. Discomfort is a constant companion, but strength is gathered as you go. Life requires everything of value to be earned. It is never given.
🤔 Food for Thought:
How long have you viewed obstacles as impediments?
Do you see how they become the way from a different perspective?
⚙️ One Small Step:
The next time you face an obstacle, remember it is your true path in disguise. Try looking at it from different angles. See the stairs instead of the impenetrable wall. Then take the first step up.
